The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has publicly denounced the murder of Ardo Risku Mohammed, the Benue State leader of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN). The organization stated that this violent event represents a serious impediment to current reconciliation initiatives within the state.
Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, the Director-General of the Institute, noted that Mohammed was recognized for his commitment to inter-community dialogue and harmony. His work to bridge ethnic and religious divides garnered him significant admiration throughout Benue.
The IPCR emphasized that targeting peace advocates threatens regional stability. While expressing sorrow for the loss, the organization praised security services for detaining approximately 10 individuals linked to the crime. Officials called for a transparent, impartial investigation and full prosecution of those responsible to uphold justice.
Furthermore, the Institute called on local leaders, youth groups, and religious organizations to exercise restraint to prevent further unrest. The IPCR reiterated its dedication to social cohesion and expressed its deepest sympathies to Mohammed’s family and the members of MACBAN.
