Recovery teams pulled four additional bodies from the river in Malamawar Yandutse, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, on Tuesday. The victims included an engaged couple, leaving the local community in mourning as search operations persist.
Umar Habibu, the village head, verified the discovery. This incident follows a previous report where a vessel carrying approximately 40 passengers, primarily women and children, overturned. While 23 individuals were initially saved, six others lost their lives, and many remained missing.
The recovery effort yielded two bodies on Monday night and another two on Tuesday morning. The deceased are 25-year-old Nazifi Magaji, 18-year-old Khadija Malam Sagiru, and 14-year-olds Sadiya Adamu and Safiya Daihu. Residents noted that Sagiru was set to be married this Saturday, while Magaji had a wedding planned for next month.
Muhammad Bala Sanusi of the State Emergency Management Agency acknowledged the new findings. All victims were laid to rest according to Islamic rites, with local officials and security personnel in attendance. Due to decomposition, two of the bodies were interred near the riverbank.
