Europol recently disclosed the results of a groundbreaking international mission aimed at curbing sexual violence involving drugs. Seven countries spearheaded this initiative, concentrating on assaults occurring within personal relationships and promoted by hateful online forums.
Known as Project Medusa, the investigation centralized at the National Crime Agency in London during late June. Authorities successfully pinpointed 156 suspects and victims, alongside 274 fresh leads and four previously unknown online communities. These digital networks exploit encrypted communication and private forums to share stories of abuse, trade illegal substances, and organize criminal activities while dehumanizing their targets.
This initiative seeks to weaken and break apart online groups that enable such violence, while improving international cooperation for legal proceedings. Since beginning in April 2026, the participating nations have conducted 113 investigations, resulting in 57 arrests and the protection of 158 victims. Law enforcement agencies from Germany, the UK, the US, France, Brazil, Canada, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Spain are actively collaborating with Europol on this effort.
