Eyewitnesses say the deceased mother who was in her 50s reportedly confronted her son that it was too early to be smoking, and this allegedly enraged Samson who resulted in stabbing his mother with a knife.
Samson’s elder brother, who is a sickle cell patient raised the alarm with a shout and this attracted people into the compound because the gate of the compound was still under lock.
The deceased was met in the pool of her blood by the time neighbours gained access to the house to stop the suspect from attacking his mother.
An X user identified as Ose in a video he posted on social media, showed Samson with the knife he allegedly used to kill his mother.
A close relative disclosed that the family resides on Jehovah Street, Obiedike, Obiaruku and that Samson initially relocated to Asaba to learn a trade after completing secondary school. However, he was allegedly brought back a few months later after associating with a group of people who introduced him to drugs which had a detrimental impact on his mental health.
Samson was subsequently brought back to Obiaruku, where his mother took him to a traditional mental health facility for treatment.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesman for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, said Samson had been arrested by the police.
