The Independent National Electoral Commission has pushed back its nomination deadline to July 14, providing political organizations additional time to register their candidates. This adjustment follows reports that the Peoples Democratic Party has finished uploading its presidential and legislative contenders. PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed noted that the successful submission of their ticket marks a significant achievement, proving the party’s readiness for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
While the PDP continues to finalize its list for governorship and state legislative seats, other organizations are experiencing varied levels of success with the digital portal. The African Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party both reported seamless submission processes. Conversely, smaller entities like the Allied Peoples Movement have faced administrative obstacles, while the Accord Party has proceeded more cautiously.
The nomination process began in late June when INEC distributed access credentials. Although the original window concluded on July 11, the extension until midnight on July 14 is intended to accommodate parties struggling with the technical requirements. For the PDP, completing this stage is particularly notable given the party’s history of internal leadership disputes over recent months.
