Over the weekend, the Imo State Police Command conducted extensive forest operations aided by surveillance drones, resulting in the successful rescue of a kidnapped individual. Police spokesperson Henry Okoye stated that the department is integrating drone technology to bolster intelligence and track criminal networks throughout the region.
Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso spearheaded the mission on June 27, 2026. Working alongside local vigilante groups, officers cleared forests in the Nekede, Ihiagwa, and Agbala regions of Owerri West and Owerri North. This strategic move followed instructions from the Inspector General of Police and the Deputy Inspector General overseeing the South East zone, aiming to neutralize criminal hideouts.
During the sweep, authorities liberated Chinonaobi Uchegbulam, who was held in a forest encampment. The victim, who sustained injuries, was transported to a local hospital and is currently showing signs of recovery. Commissioner Bosso emphasized that the police force remains dedicated to intelligence-driven tactics to secure the state. The Command has encouraged residents to stay alert and assist officers by reporting any suspicious behavior to local stations.
