Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has pledged his administration’s continued backing for the Nigeria Police Force and various security services to ensure stability within the region. This commitment was voiced during a meeting at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi with Suleiman Mohammed Abdul, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the North-West zone.
Addressing the delegation, Idris emphasized that protecting residents and their property remains a top priority. He lauded the Inspector-General of Police for organizing this official assessment to determine how the state can better address security threats. Idris highlighted that the state’s proximity to the Republic of Niger and the Republic of Benin has allowed criminal actors, such as bandits and the Lakurawa group, to infiltrate border areas. He expressed optimism that the findings from the DIG’s visit would lead to improved safety protocols.
During the meeting, DIG Abdul stated that his visit was prompted by the Inspector-General to thank the governor for his consistent support, which includes the donation of operational vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers. The DIG also extended condolences to the people of Kebbi regarding recent losses caused by banditry. Furthermore, he noted that his visit included an inspection of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Gwandu, under the Safe School initiative, reaffirming the police force’s dedication to intelligence-driven operations and better officer welfare.
