Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered the state’s Attorney-General to initiate legal proceedings against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following their decision to freeze a government bank account. The restriction was placed on a First Bank account used primarily for disbursing employee salaries.
Speaking to reporters in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke characterized the move as a violation of legal standards. He has formally requested that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede clarify the justification for the freeze and provide documentation to support the agency’s actions. The governor stated that the situation warrants public scrutiny, arguing that such measures undermine democratic processes.
Adeleke confirmed that a lawsuit is being prepared for the Federal High Court in Osogbo to contest the blockade. As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not released an official statement explaining why the “Post No Debit” order was imposed on the state’s funds.
