Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State officially inaugurated the recently elected local government chairpersons on Monday. He tasked them with fostering grassroots progress, bolstering local security, and maintaining accountability in their respective districts.
Highlighting that local government represents the administrative level most connected to the public, Governor Yahaya pointed to their essential responsibility in managing primary healthcare, basic schooling, rural infrastructure, water access, sanitation, and agricultural assistance. He noted that their success in office would serve as a primary indicator of the administration’s achievements ahead of the 2027 elections.
Regarding security, the governor instructed the chairpersons to collaborate with residents to enhance intelligence efforts and maintain peace. He also discussed the recent Local Council Development Area (LCDA) reforms, noting that new facilities are ready and administrative frameworks are finalized to improve local service delivery. Governor Yahaya reminded the officials that his administration took over financially strained councils in 2019 but has since stabilized them, allowing for the consistent payment of salaries and the completion of vital projects. He concluded by urging the leaders to operate with honesty and prioritize the needs of their constituents.
