Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu highlights the Nigerian Army’s commitment to national security and personnel welfare during the 2026 Nigerian Army Day celebrations in Bauchi.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, has pledged to enhance national security and personnel welfare as part of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL). Speaking during a Juma’at prayer session at the Obienu Barracks Central Mosque in Bauchi, he commemorated the institution’s 163rd anniversary.

Represented at the event, General Shaibu honoured the service of officers, soldiers, and veterans. He noted that this milestone serves as a time to pay tribute to those who died protecting the nation while reaffirming the army’s dedication to territorial integrity. The theme for this year, “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army,” highlights the force’s duty to secure citizens and earn public trust.

The Army Chief praised troops for their ongoing victories against terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry. He credited these successes to the professionalism of his soldiers and cooperation with other security agencies. His command strategy, known as the “Soldier First” initiative, focuses on cultivating a combat-ready force while ensuring that welfare—including healthcare, housing, and education—remains a top priority. He concluded by urging personnel to uphold the core values of integrity and loyalty as they continue their mission to stabilize the country.
