Nigeria’s newly trained forest guards are set to begin duty protecting local communities and preserving the nation’s natural resources. Representing National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu at a graduation event in Lokoja, Major General Hillary Mabeokwu explained that these officers must secure forest areas while simultaneously bolstering community safety against criminal threats.
The personnel will head to their assigned locations immediately. During the ceremony, the graduates were instructed to maintain high professional standards, respect human rights, and uphold international law. Ribadu emphasized that this program highlights the federal government’s dedication to nationwide security.
Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo praised the initiative, noting that his administration will ensure no part of the state’s forests remains a sanctuary for illicit activities. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for championing this program, which aims to convert woodland areas into productive zones for lawful economic activity rather than havens for lawbreakers.
