The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is rolling out a Zonal Special Intervention Patrol across Nigeria. This initiative introduces 12 distinct operations specifically designed to minimize traffic accidents and boost adherence to safety laws.
Scheduled to begin on July 20, these patrols will operate across all 12 Zonal Commands. Each zone has developed a unique approach to handle the particular safety issues within its local territory. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed approved the plan to bolster safety via better intelligence, public awareness, stakeholder cooperation, and improved emergency readiness.
Specific operations include Operation Fushin Zuma in Kaduna, Operation Ride Safe in Bauchi, Operation Shark Smile in Port Harcourt, Operation ABO in Lagos, Operation Sauka Lafia in Abuja, Operation Kasolayo in Ilorin, Operation Kwushi Ihe Mberede in Enugu, Operation Sanity in Osogbo, Operation Total Compliance in Benin, Operation Harbin Kunama in Yola, Operation Hadarin Kalangu in Jos, and Operation Daidaita Loading in Zone 10.
According to the Corps Marshal, this shift moves away from standard enforcement toward specialized actions targeting primary causes of road fatalities. Officers will be stationed at major highways, motor parks, and busy terminals. Furthermore, the agency plans to coordinate with other security forces to tighten enforcement and speed up accident response times.
While officials warned that violators will face strict consequences, they maintained that the primary goal is protecting public safety. Motorists are strictly advised to avoid overloading their vehicles and to report any instances of dangerous driving to the FRSC.
