Residents of Mika Sabon-Gida in the Pupule ‘B’ Ward of Yorro Local Government Area, Taraba State, have expressed deep frustration over a four-month power outage. The community is calling on the state government, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), and local representatives to address the issue, which stems from a faulty transformer.
Community leader Jauro Baki noted that the lack of electricity has crippled local business activities. Resident Andrew Helikiah added that the ongoing blackout has forced many young entrepreneurs to abandon the community as their ventures became unsustainable. Alhaji Babangida Aliyu Mika Mika, a community representative, emphasized that the broken transformer also impacts surrounding areas within the Yorro and Zing Local Government Areas, making a swift replacement a matter of regional public interest.
Families are currently struggling with the high costs of alternative power sources. The residents are urging authorities to prioritize the replacement of the transformer to revive the local economy and alleviate the ongoing financial burden. A senior YEDC official, speaking anonymously, stated that the company is aware of the situation and is actively working on plans to replace the equipment, though official statements are directed to the Yola headquarters.
