Four Detained in Osun Over Murder Attempt and Weapon Possession

Police in Osun have arrested four suspects in Modakeke for attempted murder and illegal firearms possession, while also detaining six others for an attack at Osun State Polytechnic.

Law enforcement officials in Osun State have taken four individuals into custody regarding claims of attempted murder and the illegal holding of weapons within the Modakeke region of Ife East. DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the police spokesperson, announced the arrests on Wednesday, noting that the individuals are facing charges related to conspiracy, assault, and unauthorized possession of firearms.

Authorities acted after receiving a formal complaint submitted to the Commissioner of Police. Officers apprehended the four suspects—two men and two women—on Sunday afternoon. A subsequent search of their properties led to the recovery of two weapons, specifically a locally manufactured cut-to-size gun and a pump-action rifle. The suspects remain in custody as investigators pursue other individuals connected to the case.

Separately, the Violent Crime Response Unit successfully detained six individuals at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. These suspects allegedly entered the campus with weapons and attacked two students. Two of the detainees have since admitted their affiliation with the Aye Confraternity. The police command reaffirmed its dedication to public safety and urged the community to report suspicious activities promptly.
