Joshua Akinitire, 24, and Taiwo Ogundeji, 25, were brought before the Odigbo Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo State on charges of conspiracy and assault.
The accused appeared before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu to face a one-count charge related to an incident that allegedly took place on August 18, 2025, around 2 p.m., at the Jerry Sawmill area in Ore, Ondo State.
According to the prosecution, Inspector Usifoh James, the defendants conspired to and unlawfully assaulted Yahaya Ibrahim by physically attacking him and inflicting injuries on his fingers using a cutlass.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read in court.
The alleged offenses violate Sections 516 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Inspector James requested an adjournment to allow time for reviewing the case file and preparing witnesses. Defense counsel, Mr. V. A. Akinfe, did not oppose the adjournment but requested that bail be granted on liberal terms.
The prosecutor, however, objected to the bail application, arguing that the defendants might misuse the privilege if released.
Chief Magistrate Akinlolu postponed his decision on the bail request and ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned to August 29, 2025.
