Sodeinde Olajuwon Phillips has confessed to orchestrating the murder of retired Ogun State television personality, Olakitan Ibiyola Oyesiku. The suspect, a former employee of the victim, stated that he committed the act alongside two accomplices because he was dissatisfied with his previous wages and needed funds to secure an apartment. The victim, affectionately known as Aunty Kitan, was killed at her home in the Kobape area of Abeokuta alongside her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
Ogun State Police Commissioner Bode Ojajuni reported that investigators discovered the bodies on June 21, 2026. A notable detail in the investigation involved handwritten notes left by the perpetrators at the crime scene, which helped lead authorities to the suspects. The group allegedly stole the broadcaster’s Lexus RX 330 during the incident.
Law enforcement officials tracked and apprehended Phillips, along with 27-year-old Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and 36-year-old Sobu Obafunsho. Phillips admitted to using a hammer to kill the guard before confronting Oyesiku. The vehicle was later recovered near the residence of the prime suspect, who was arrested at a construction site. This tragic event follows a series of similar crimes in the region where former staff have targeted their employers, including the high-profile case involving a former Central Bank of Nigeria employee in 2023.
