Former Bauchi Deputy Governor Loses Two Children in Car Accident

Senator Baba Tela, former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, mourns the death of his two children who were killed in a fatal car crash on the Bauchi–Azare highway.

Senator Baba Tela, the former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, is grieving after his children, Mustapha and Ummi, passed away in a lethal road accident. The tragedy occurred on Saturday while they were traveling along the Bauchi–Azare highway on their way back to Bauchi from Katagum Local Government Area.

The force of the collision proved fatal, leading to their immediate deaths at the site. Medical staff at a local hospital in Bauchi later officially confirmed the loss of their lives. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State voiced his deep sorrow, offering his sympathies to the Tela family through a statement released by his media advisor, Mukhtar Gidado. The governor acknowledged the profound impact this loss has on the entire state.

Governor Mohammed extended his prayers for the family, asking for strength and patience during this difficult time. The burial ceremony for the two siblings is set to take place at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi on Sunday, July 5, 2026, starting at 11:00 a.m.
