Floyd Mayweather exhibition against Mike Zambidis cancelled

A scheduled exhibition fight between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and kickboxing star Mike Zambidis has been cancelled following legal pressure and promotion issues.

According to federal court documents seen by ESPN, Floyd Mayweather has cancelled his upcoming exhibition boxing match against Greek kickboxing icon Mike Zambidis. The event was scheduled to take place this Saturday at the OAKA Olympic Complex in Athens.

The cancellation follows legal action from CSI, an events company currently suing the former champion for 4.65 million dollars related to separate, unrealized bouts against Manny Pacquiao and Mike Tyson. Attorney Melissa Glass informed the court that the ongoing litigation caused enough uncertainty to halt ticket sales and promotional activities. While the 45-year-old Zambidis, a renowned K-1 MAX veteran, may face Mayweather in the future, the current match is scrapped.

Mayweather, who retired in 2017 with a 50-0 record, has focused on exhibitions recently. However, his schedule remains turbulent. A proposed match against Mike Tyson failed to occur, and his rematch with Manny Pacquiao is in doubt. While Netflix previously announced the Pacquiao fight for Las Vegas, disputes over whether the contest would be an exhibition or a professional bout caused complications, and the venue has since filled that date with other programming.
