Residents living in Abuja’s Wuse District have petitioned FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to fix the local water supply system. Taps in Wuse Zones 1, 2, 3, and Wuse II have been dry for nearly three weeks, creating significant difficulties for families and local business owners.
Many households are now forced to purchase water from private sellers at rising prices. Mrs. Ngozi Okafor, a resident of Wuse Zone 2, noted that the cost of buying water has become a major financial burden. Meanwhile, Mr. John Bamgbose from Wuse Zone 6 highlighted the potential public health crisis, explaining that families are rationing water for sanitation and daily use, which increases the risk of illness.
Mrs. Esther Bassey of Wuse II joined others in calling on the FCT Minister, the FCTA, and the FCDA to take immediate action. The residents argue that such a vital area of the capital should not face these conditions and are urging the authorities to treat the lack of water as an emergency to ensure basic hygiene and public wellbeing.
