The Federal Ministry of Works has officially banned commercial motorcycles and tricycles from operating on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. This directive, revealed on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare, goes into effect this week.
According to Dare, this decision serves to prevent the degradation of the new superhighway. By restricting these vehicles, the government aims to safeguard the road infrastructure and ensure its durability. Furthermore, the ban extends to all bridges within Lagos State, while the parking of trucks and articulated vehicles is now strictly prohibited along the highway corridors.
The ministry also declared that the improper disposal of waste along the route is forbidden. To enforce these new rules, the government has installed warning signs and deployed task force teams to monitor key areas. Dare emphasized that the highway is a high-quality asset that must be protected, urging citizens to follow these guidelines to support public safety and the longevity of the transit system.
