The federal government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in honor of President Bola Tinubu. Works Minister Dave Umahi stated on Thursday in Abuja that this decision recognizes Tinubu’s role in conceptualizing the 750-kilometre project nearly 30 years ago when he served as the governor of Lagos State.
Umahi emphasized that while many possess visions, the President possesses the unique capacity to see them through to reality. During the announcement, the Minister revealed that the President has also sanctioned a 400-kilometre expansion for the Fourth Legacy Highway, effectively increasing the total corridor to 1,100 kilometres.
Additional infrastructure developments were confirmed, including the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with reinforced concrete and the completion of the long-stalled Ibi Bridge in Taraba State. Work is currently advancing on the coastal highway project across multiple states, including Ogun, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. The initial segment from Victoria Island to Eleko Village serves as the project’s construction standard, while the second section is nearing completion with expectations for significant progress by November.
