The Federal Ministry of Works has chosen to pause the bridge maintenance work on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Although construction was originally slated to start on July 28, 2026, and run for a fortnight, those plans are now suspended until further notice.
Engr. R. Adeleye, the Acting Federal Controller of Works for Ogun State, confirmed the update on Tuesday. He noted that the postponement came following specific directives, though a future start date remains undecided.
Prior to this change, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, had released a traffic plan to manage the project. This plan included narrowing the four-lane road to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometer distance to ensure worker safety. While officials had urged drivers to anticipate delays near the Kara and Fatgbems Turn areas, those disruptions are no longer expected to begin at this time. The government has confirmed that a updated schedule for the repairs will be shared once determined.
