Despite growing resistance, the Nigerian government has affirmed its commitment to a land exchange project at Federal Government College, Kano. Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, confirmed the initiative during an official site inspection on Monday, joined by state education officials and representatives from various academic commissions.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the project is designed to secure funding for necessary school expansions and facility upgrades. He argued that the administration must prioritize student outcomes over public pushback, stating that the focus remains on providing high-quality education rather than catering to external sentiment.
The ministry plans to utilize idle school grounds through a Public-Private Partnership model to generate revenue. The minister questioned the logic of holding vast unused acreage for a century when those resources could immediately enhance learning environments. After consulting with the school’s principal and conducting thorough site assessments, the ministry remains confident in the proposal’s benefits. Furthermore, the minister extended an invitation to alumni and private investors to participate, provided they adhere to official government requirements.
