Federal Government Denounces Murder of MACBAN Benue Chairman and Demands Justice

The Federal Government has officially condemned the killing of the MACBAN chairman in Benue, ordering security agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the violence.

The Federal Government has labeled the murder of Alhaji Risku, the Benue State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), and his colleague as a despicable act. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, expressed profound indignation regarding the violence.

Akume stated that this attack undermines the ongoing efforts to foster reconciliation and trust within Benue communities. He emphasized that the state had recently made significant strides in improving security and peaceful coexistence among various ethnic and religious groups. The government warned that those seeking to disrupt this progress through violence would not be tolerated.

To ensure stability, the government stressed that economic growth and job creation depend entirely on a peaceful environment. Akume cautioned citizens against resorting to vigilante justice or succumbing to efforts aimed at inciting communal hatred. He offered his sympathies to the families of the victims and the broader MACBAN organization.

The government has directed the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services to perform a comprehensive investigation. Akume insisted that the perpetrators must be captured and prosecuted, highlighting that recent actions taken following violence in Yelwata demonstrate the state’s determination to bring criminals to justice. President Bola Tinubu remains steadfast in his commitment to utilizing all necessary resources to combat insecurity and protect every Nigerian citizen. Local residents are encouraged to maintain order and assist authorities by providing any relevant information to help resolve the case.
