Federal Government and SSANU Finalize Renegotiation Pact

The Federal Government and SSANU have signed a formal agreement to end their 2009 renegotiation dispute, with union leaders now pressing for immediate and full implementation of the new terms.

The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) officially reached an agreement on Monday regarding the 2009 renegotiation terms. This settlement concludes the recent dispute between both parties.

SSANU National President, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, urged the government to prioritize the immediate implementation of the deal. The document was signed at the National Universities Commission in Abuja, with Ibrahim signing for the union and Mahmud Yayale Ahmed representing the federal authorities.

Ibrahim characterized the signing as a major achievement resulting from years of advocacy and persistent engagement. He noted that the agreement addresses critical union demands, including salary reviews, enhanced service conditions, and adjustments to the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTA).

Emphasizing the importance of follow-through, Ibrahim stated that the union’s focus has now shifted toward ensuring the government fulfills all commitments. He called on all SSANU members to maintain unity and vigilance to ensure the terms are executed promptly and without bias.
