Lawal Hamisu, a father of eleven, requested that the Magajin Gari Shari’a court in Kaduna order his 27-year-old daughter, Fatima Lawal, to enter into matrimony. Represented by his lawyer, H.B. Debo, the father stated that his daughter has earned a Higher National Diploma yet refuses to settle down, despite having several potential suitors.
The complainant alleged that his former spouse has negatively influenced his children against him. He asked the court to force Fatima to choose a partner and present him for marriage. Conversely, Fatima maintained that no genuine marriage proposals have been made to her by any of her admirers.
Presiding judge Malam Yakubu Abdullahi described the matter as delicate. He opted to hold private sessions with both individuals to better grasp the situation before offering guidance. The proceedings are scheduled to resume on August 3.
