Family of Slain Hunter Seeks Justice in Delta State

A Delta State family is demanding a formal investigation into the murder of 31-year-old hunter Lucky Omole, who was gunned down in Ughelli South.

Olorogun Amrevuawho Peter, the leader of the Edariese family, has submitted a formal petition to the Divisional Police Officer in Otu-Jeremi, Delta State, demanding a neutral investigation into the killing of 31-year-old Lucky Omole. Omole was shot by unknown assailants in the Ovwodokpokpor-Olomu region of Ughelli South on June 30, 2026.

The victim was attacked on a main street in full view of local residents and fellow hunters. Following the shooting, Omole was transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Ovwian, where he passed away. His body is currently held at the Otu-Jeremi General Hospital morgue.

Peter, a former head of the Delta State branch of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, explicitly denied reports attempting to link Omole to cult activities. He insisted the deceased was a peaceful resident with no ties to the violence that took place in the area days earlier. The petition also alleges that certain figures masquerading as community leaders provided weapons to the attackers and suggests a history of aggression toward the Edariese Efejama family.

The family is calling for a transparent police inquiry to ensure those responsible face legal consequences. As of now, Delta State Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe has provided no official comment regarding the matter.
