Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Sanusi, the Emir of Dutse and Chancellor of Sokoto State University, has called on Nigerians to prioritize entrepreneurship and innovation to drive national economic progress. During a convocation lecture, the monarch emphasized that moving away from a reliance on academic credentials is vital for job creation and wealth generation.
Highlighting the necessity of a global mindset, the Emir noted that youth must identify unique opportunities to build sustainable enterprises. He specifically championed the role of women in this economic shift, noting that empowering women is key to community development. He cited positive trends in educational attainment among women in Jigawa State as an example of progress.
Sokoto State government representative Dr. Jabir Sani Maihula reaffirmed the administration’s pledge to support tertiary education, aiming to transition graduates from job seekers to employers. Meanwhile, guest lecturer Umar Buba Bindir urged students to challenge the narrative of poverty in Sokoto by utilizing research to unlock the state’s vast natural and human resources, particularly in agriculture.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Bello Yerima announced that the institution is actively expanding its academic offerings. Proposals for new degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Entrepreneurship, and Engineering are currently under review by the National Universities Commission, reflecting a strategic shift toward technology-driven education.
