Ekwulobia cancels New Yam festival following abduction of Chief Joseph Ezeokafor

Residents of Ekwulobia have suspended their upcoming New Yam festival following the kidnapping of Jezco Group CEO Chief Joseph Ezeokafor.

The Ekwulobia community, located in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, has officially called off its annual New Yam festival. The event, which was planned for September 4, 2026, was suspended following the abduction of local business leader Chief Joseph Ezeokafor.

Chief Ezeokafor, who serves as the head of Jezco Group and is the father of internet personality Jowi Zaza, was reportedly taken on Tuesday evening. According to local reports, the businessman was intercepted shortly after leaving his residence without his usual security detail.

The traditional ruler of Ekwulobia, His Royal Majesty Igwe Emmanuel Chukwukadibia Onyeneke, issued the suspension to show solidarity with the family. Local sources confirmed that the community deemed it inappropriate to proceed with festivities while a prominent member remains in the hands of his kidnappers.
