Digital assault stalls 2026 Nigerian Bar Association presidential vote

A coordinated cyberattack has forced the Nigerian Bar Association to delay its 2026 national election voting process as security teams work to stabilize the voting platform.

The ECNBA has indefinitely postponed the 2026 NBA national election voting process due to a targeted cyberattack on its electronic voting infrastructure. The poll was originally set to begin at midnight on Saturday, July 18, 2026, but was halted after officials detected external interference aimed at compromising the system.

In an official notice, the committee expressed regret to candidates and voters, characterizing the incident as a sustained, intentional strike against the integrity of the election. The electoral body confirmed that its security team, alongside the Election Voting Service Provider, has initiated emergency measures to neutralize the threat and secure the portal.

Authorities clarified that no ballots have been cast and emphasized that the portal remains closed until safety is restored. They advised all lawyers to ignore unauthorized links and only use the official website, www.ecnbaovs.org.ng. Despite the technical setback, monitoring remains active, and the leadership of the ECNBA, including Chairman Aham Ejelam, SAN, and Secretary Ibrahim Nassarawa, pledged to maintain transparency throughout the restoration process.
