Ekiti police capture three ATM fraud suspects, seize 16 cards

Ekiti police arrested three men and recovered 16 ATM cards, dismantling a fraud ring that targeted bank customers in Ado-Ekiti.

The Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended three men accused of running an ATM fraud ring. The individuals in custody are 39-year-old Timilehin Akinola, 46-year-old Ojo Peter, and 35-year-old Ademola Akinware.

Police spokesperson SP Sunday Abutu confirmed the arrests, noting that officers acted on intelligence reports regarding suspicious activity at the Wema Bank Okesa branch in Ado-Ekiti. When the suspects noticed the police, they attempted to escape on a motorcycle but were stopped by officers in the Basiri neighborhood.

A search of the suspects yielded 16 stolen bank cards. Authorities believe the group focused on swapping or stealing cards from people at ATM locations to drain their accounts. Police Commissioner Falade Adegoroye Michael has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover any additional accomplices. The command is advising citizens to stay alert when using bank machines and to report any unusual behavior to law enforcement.
