Dare Bejide, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Ekiti governorship election, has formally rejected the declared results. During a press gathering in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Bejide labeled the entire electoral process as illegitimate and lacking in integrity.
Bejide characterized the voting environment as resembling a combat zone, citing excessive tension at various polling locations. He leveled serious accusations against the ruling party, asserting that they resorted to widespread vote buying using both cash incentives and food supplies. According to Bejide, these desperate measures were a direct consequence of the government failing to produce a strong record of performance to win over the electorate naturally.
Furthermore, the candidate alleged that high-ranking political figures, including a current senator and various appointees, facilitated the presence of thugs and security personnel to intimidate voters. He lamented that these actions represent a dark moment for local democracy. Regarding his next steps, Bejide indicated that his team is currently auditing reports from various units before determining an official legal or political response. In the meantime, he has encouraged his supporters and the wider Ekiti population to maintain peace and order.
