Edo State Leaders Honor Late Catholic Archbishop of Benin

Governor Monday Okpebholo and Senator Adams Oshiomhole have paid tribute to the late Catholic Archbishop of Benin, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, honoring his legacy of service and advocacy.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Senator Adams Oshiomhole have expressed their grief following the passing of Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, the Catholic Archbishop of Benin. The archbishop, who was 69 years old, died while vacationing overseas, just weeks before reaching his 70th birthday.

Governor Okpebholo, through a statement from his spokesperson Dr. Patrick Ebojele, lamented the death as a significant blow to Nigeria, Edo State, and the Christian faith. He lauded the late cleric for his role as a brave champion of justice and a dedicated spiritual leader. The governor highlighted the archbishop’s life of humility and his advocacy for the underprivileged, calling him a vital moral voice. He also pledged the government’s support to the Catholic community during this difficult time.

Senator Oshiomhole also shared his condolences, noting that he was deeply saddened by the news. Represented by his Chief of Staff, Victor Oshioke, the senator recalled the archbishop’s commitment to truth and his ability to relate to people from all walks of life. He praised the cleric for his intellectual depth and his consistent dedication to serving God and his congregation. Oshiomhole remarked that the archbishop’s life was defined by his pursuit of truth and his selfless service to the public.
