Stanley Emeni, a 43-year-old member of the Edo State Security Corps, has died following a confrontation with suspected kidnappers. The incident occurred during a joint rescue mission intended to save a 60-year-old farmer, Tuesday Osemeke, who had been abducted in the Igbanke area of Orhionmwon Local Government Area.
Edo State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the details on Thursday, July 2, 2026. On June 26, local police joined forces with the security corps, community safety groups, and local hunters to search the forest for the captive. While the rescue operation successfully secured the release of Mr. Osemeke, a firefight ensued. During the exchange, Mr. Emeni sustained gunshot wounds and ultimately passed away in the hospital on June 29, 2026.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Innocent Nkeamatara, visited the family in Idumodu Community to offer condolences. The Commissioner praised Emeni for his selfless service and bravery. In the wake of this tragedy, police leadership has promised to reevaluate security operational frameworks to improve intelligence sharing and minimize risks for those participating in future joint patrols.
