Villagers in Tse-Atem, located in the Borikyo Ward of Benue State’s Ukum Local Government Area, are calling for immediate government and security intervention. They report that armed herders have been observed moving through the community with their cattle, sparking widespread fear of impending violence.
Local resident Lupe Abaa stated that the presence of these individuals near the home of the late Samuel Anda—a victim of a 2024 attack—has caused significant distress. Many families have abandoned their homes, haunted by memories of the widespread fatalities, injuries, and property loss experienced during last year’s unrest.
Reports indicate that the situation has escalated, with one anonymous resident claiming that three armed men, equipped with guns and a cutlass, recently drove farmers away from their fields. While no physical assaults have occurred in 2024, the climate of intimidation remains severe. Local community members are urging officials to deploy security forces immediately to restore order and protect lives.
Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, for an official statement were unsuccessful.
