Defence Minister Christopher Musa Labels Coup Plotting Futile in Nigeria

Defence Minister Christopher Musa has warned that planning a coup in Nigeria is a futile endeavor, asserting that the public and the military remain committed to protecting democracy.

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Christopher Musa, has declared that any efforts to orchestrate a coup within the nation are pointless. During a Friday interview on Arise Television, he emphasized that the Nigerian populace would actively oppose any moves to dismantle the current democratic government.

Musa highlighted the superiority of democracy over military intervention, affirming the military’s dedication to upholding the country’s democratic framework. Reflecting on a previous investigation, he noted that he was personally instrumental in uncovering and reporting a coup plot, even leading the investigative panel assigned to the case.

He characterized the individuals behind the attempt as misguided, noting they had wrongly influenced younger officers.

Addressing the welfare of the Armed Forces, Musa stated that soldiers are being well supported.

He confirmed that salaries are paid promptly and that ongoing initiatives are focused on enhancing allowances and securing better equipment to combat national insecurity. He reiterated that any future attempts at a coup would inevitably fail, stating that the public would not allow such actions to succeed.
