NDC Secretary Claims Court Ruling Against Party Is Driven by Opposition to Peter Obi

NDC National Secretary Ikenna Enekweizu claims a court order to deregister his party is a calculated effort by rivals to prevent Peter Obi from running in the 2027 election.

Ikenna Enekweizu, the National Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has asserted that the recent court decision to deregister the party is the work of individuals who fear the political influence of Peter Obi. Enekweizu shared this perspective during a Friday appearance on the Channels Television program Politics Today.

His comments follow a Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja, Kogi State, which moved to strip the NDC of its eligibility to participate in the 2027 general elections. Enekweizu characterized the legal action as a tactical move by political adversaries attempting to stifle fair competition.

He emphasized that the public is aware of Peter Obi’s status as the party’s clear choice for the 2027 presidential race. According to Enekweizu, those orchestrating the deregistration are motivated by the knowledge that they cannot defeat Obi in a legitimate election and are therefore attempting to block his name from appearing on the ballot.
