Club World Cup: Messi Responds After PSG Eliminate Inter Miami From Tournament
Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has reacted to his team’s 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16.
Messi was unable to inspire a comeback as Inter Miami were knocked out of the tournament, with PSG advancing to face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
The defeat came courtesy of a brace from Joao Neves, an own goal by Tomas Aviles, and a strike from Achraf Hakimi.
In a post on his Instagram account following the match, Messi encouraged his teammates and fans to shift focus to the Major League Soccer (MLS) season and other upcoming competitions.
The Argentina captain also shared his happiness at reuniting with some of his former PSG teammates.
Messi, who joined Inter Miami in 2023 after spending two seasons with the French giants, expressed fondness for the brief reunion despite the disappointing result.
“Today the Club World Cup ends for us with defeat against the Champions League winners, where there are players I appreciate and that gave me joy to see them again,” Messi wrote on Instagram.
“We leave with pride to have achieved our goal of reaching the top 16 of the tournament. Now to focus on the MLS and all that is coming.”
