Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently adjusted its temporary residence processing estimates, leading to longer wait times for many Nigerians seeking to enter the country. These updated figures, released on August 5, 2026, indicate a trend of increasing delays for several categories.
For those pursuing study permits, the anticipated wait has grown from six to seven weeks. Meanwhile, individuals applying for visitor visas will now face a 68-day wait, up from 64 days. Super visa applications have also seen a minor uptick, moving from 41 to 43 days. Conversely, the expected timeframe for work permits for Nigerians remains steady at seven weeks.
These adjustments extend beyond Nigeria. For instance, Pakistani applicants for work permits have seen their wait time surge significantly from 11 to 25 weeks. Philippine applicants experienced a one-week increase in study permit processing, while their super visa wait rose from 73 to 100 days. Some regions saw improvements; notably, super visa applicants from Pakistan now face a wait of 185 days, down from 196.
The IRCC stresses that these durations are merely projections rather than fixed deadlines. Actual processing speed depends on application volume, case complexity, and the need for extra documentation. As these figures are updated weekly, applicants should anticipate further changes when the next report is published on August 12, 2026.
