CAN Praises Rescue of Kidnapped Oriire Students and Teachers

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has celebrated the safe return of pupils and teachers in Oyo State while urging continued efforts to rescue all other citizens held by criminal elements.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has officially voiced its relief and thanks following the release of students and staff members who were held captive for 56 days in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. In a statement released Sunday, CAN National President Archbishop Daniel Okoh characterized the homecoming as a momentous occasion for the nation and the families involved.

Archbishop Okoh praised the collaborative efforts of President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the police, the DSS, Amotekun, and local security groups. He noted that the operation’s success was a direct result of intelligence-led strategies and professional dedication.

Furthermore, Okoh lauded Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for his ongoing support of the victims and his pledge to assist in their recovery. Despite the success in Oyo, the association urged the government not to lose sight of other citizens still held by criminal groups in states such as Borno and Niger. He emphasized that the struggle against insecurity must continue until every captive is safely returned.

The statement concluded with an appeal to government bodies and humanitarian groups to provide comprehensive medical and psychological support for the survivors. CAN stressed that schools must be transformed back into safe havens for learning, free from the threat of violence and abduction.
