Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, the retired Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, has voiced grave concerns regarding the surge in substance abuse across Nigeria. He cautioned that the dependency on drugs is rapidly escalating into a national emergency.
During his address at the third ‘Fly Above the High’ conference held in Abuja, Marwa highlighted that this expanding crisis endangers families, local communities, economic stability, and the country’s security. He emphasized that the misuse of substances hinders both individual progress and broader societal growth.
Marwa urged for an immediate, unified strategy to confront this issue, noting that drug abuse is jeopardizing the future of Nigeria’s youth. He insisted that a comprehensive solution must engage government institutions, educational facilities, families, and community representatives to effectively mitigate the threat.
