CAF Unveils Record $10.4 Million Prize Pool for 2024 African Nations Championship
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a record-setting $10.4 million prize pool for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking the largest payout in the tournament’s history. For the first time, the champions will receive $3.5 million — a 75% increase from the $2 million awarded in the previous edition. The runner-up will take home $1.2 million, while the third and fourth-placed teams will earn $700,000 and $600,000 respectively. Quarter-finalists who fall short of the semi-finals will each receive $450,000. Teams finishing third or fourth in their group stages will collect $300,000 or $200,000, depending on group format. Bottom-placed teams in five-team groups will also be awarded $200,000 each. The 2024 CHAN, officially titled CAF African Nations Championship Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024, will be the first edition jointly hosted by three countries. Scheduled to run from August 2 to 30, 2025, the tournament will feature 19 teams, including defending champions Senegal, multiple-time winners Morocco and DR Congo, and other strong contenders such as Nigeria, Algeria, Guinea, and Zambia.
