Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush may be sidelined for Sunday’s Manchester derby after the Manchester City player picked up a knee ligament injury while on international duty.
Marmoush was scheduled for an X-ray in Cairo on Wednesday after being forced off in the fourth minute of Egypt’s goalless World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on Tuesday.
The injury occurred after a tackle, and although he initially attempted to continue, he eventually had to limp off the pitch.
In a statement, the Egyptian Football Association confirmed that the team doctor diagnosed Marmoush with a bruised knee ligament, adding that further scans would be carried out upon his arrival in Cairo.
Manchester City will host Manchester United on Sunday, with both teams desperate for a win after shaky starts to the new Premier League season.
Marmoush, 26, has netted eight goals in 28 appearances across all competitions for City since his £59 million (\$79.8 million) move from Eintracht Frankfurt in January.
