Borno Student Bodies and Community Groups March to Support Security Forces

Tertiary students and community groups in Borno State organized a peaceful demonstration to honor security forces and advocate for national unity in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

On Sunday, a coalition of tertiary students, civil society members, and community leaders gathered at the Post Office Roundabout in Maiduguri for a peaceful rally. The demonstration expressed strong backing for Nigeria’s security forces in their ongoing struggle against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and regional banditry. Students from major institutions like the University of Maiduguri and Ramat Polytechnic participated, honoring the Armed Forces, Police, DSS, and the Civilian Joint Task Force for their dedication to restoring stability.

Student representative Suleiman Muhammad Sarki urged the public to stand against violence and avoid paying ransoms, which he argued only fuels criminal operations. Participants carried signs advocating for national unity and increased support for troops. Representatives from the Mohammed Lawan College of Agriculture highlighted that revitalizing farming is essential for regional recovery, while others stressed that education is a vital tool for preventing radicalization.

Speakers highlighted that the path to peace requires more than military action; it necessitates community vigilance, intelligence sharing, and public efforts to counter misinformation. Aisha Ibrahim and Bashir Babagana, both students, praised the bravery of soldiers serving under Operation HADIN KAI. The rally concluded with prayers for those lost in the conflict and a collective call for Nigerians to remain united in the face of security challenges.
