The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has formally refuted assertions that former President Muhammadu Buhari was responsible for the creation of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The group labeled these accusations as entirely inaccurate.
In a formal statement issued this Sunday, the BMO clarified that the only body established by the former president was the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC). The PFIPC, which is currently the subject of an inquiry by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has been officially dismissed by the Presidency as a fraudulent entity.
This clarification comes in response to testimony provided by Tanimu Yakubu, the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation. During a session with the House of Representatives, Yakubu suggested a connection between the PFIPC and the PEAC, which was inaugurated on October 9, 2019. The BMO countered this, explaining that the PEAC functioned exclusively as an advisory panel of economic experts overseen by Prof. Doyin Salami. According to the BMO, the council operated without its own budget line, relying instead on specific presidential approvals for administrative expenses rather than salaries.
The BMO further noted that following the transition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2023, the PEAC was neither formally dissolved nor reconstituted. Members reportedly considered their tenure concluded upon the exit of the Buhari administration. Consequently, the organization maintains that any attempt to associate the Buhari administration with the current PFIPC scandal is devoid of any factual merit.
