I am writing to express my gratitude for your ongoing development initiatives in Enugu State, particularly the approval of a Government Technical College in Ette. Your administration’s commitment to progress is truly felt across our region. However, I must bring to your attention a troubling situation that occurred on July 20, 2026, during the site’s handover ceremony.
The Igbo-Eze North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Michael Uchenna Ogalla, visited the proposed location at Ogurugu, Ette, without notifying our traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Innocent Alachi. More concerning is that the site was unilaterally renamed from its historical designation, Ogurugu, to Mbanabo. This arbitrary change suggests an attempt to tie the land to the Umuopu community, potentially sparking local tensions.
We fully support the creation of the college, but we are also committed to preserving our community’s heritage and historical identity. I urge you to intervene and instruct Hon. Ogalla to restore the site’s original name, Ogurugu, and to ensure that administrative actions do not incite conflict between the people of Ette and their neighbors. We trust in your dedication to fairness and hope for a resolution that respects our history while promoting education.
