The African Democratic Congress has selected Bello Ambarura, the federal lawmaker for the Illela/Gwadabawa constituency, to serve as its deputy governorship nominee for the upcoming 2027 election in Sokoto State. Lamir Aminu, the state publicity secretary for the party, confirmed the selection in an official notice released on Monday.
Ambarura is set to contest the election on a ticket alongside Manir Muhammad Dan-Iya, the party’s primary candidate for governor. Aminu stated that this choice resulted from thorough internal discussions and aligns with the requirements outlined in Section 187(1) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.
The party aims to provide voters with a capable and trustworthy leadership team focused on effective governance. Ambarura brings a background as a long-term civil servant, having served as a permanent secretary and a commissioner for commerce and industries. His legislative career includes serving as the majority leader in the Sokoto State House of Assembly starting in 2019 before he successfully campaigned for his current position in the House of Representatives. The ADC anticipates that his professional history will bolster their chances in the 2027 polls.
