Demola Olarenwaju, an assistant to former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has publicly called for the dismissal of Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. This demand follows accusations from Adeniyi Matthew, who claimed to be the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, alleging that Gbajabiamila was involved in a scheme to sell government appointments for cash. Matthew specifically asserted that Gbajabiamila requested 27.4 billion Naira from the agency’s start-up funding and accepted 400 million Naira through third parties to facilitate his role.
While Bayo Onanuga, speaking for the presidency, dismissed the claims by stating that both the accuser and the supposed agency are unrecognized by the federal government, Olarenwaju remains critical. Writing on social media, Olarenwaju argued that the presidency’s rebuttal leaves only two conclusions: either Gbajabiamila was negligent in his duties by allowing such an individual access to the budget, or he was a direct participant in the fraud. He concluded that regardless of which scenario is true, the Chief of Staff should face professional consequences or potential prosecution for his role in the controversy.
