The Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has officially halted its 52-day work stoppage. This development follows a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding involving the union, the Benue State government, and university leadership.
Lecturers initiated the strike on June 1, 2026, citing unresolved issues regarding unpaid entitlements, promotion backlogs, and general staff welfare. According to ASUU-MOAUM Chairman Dr. Ako Sule, the union’s National Executive Council authorized the suspension after successful tripartite negotiations.
Sule noted that the agreement signifies a mutual dedication to solving disputes through open communication. While the union has returned to work, it insists that the state and school administration must strictly follow the terms established in the accord. He emphasized that future peace depends on the honorable fulfillment of these promises. Academic staff have been instructed to return to their posts and resume their duties without delay. The union also thanked students and parents for their patience throughout the labor dispute.
