The Federal Government of Nigeria has imposed a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3), a policy that will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session. This directive is mandatory for all public and private secondary schools across the country.
According to a statement from Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, this measure is a key step in the government’s strategy to combat examination malpractice and enhance the integrity of the national education system.
The Ministry clarified that going forward, admissions and transfers will be permitted only for SS1 and SS2 classes, with absolutely no student allowed to enroll in SS3 under any circumstances.
Officials explained that the objective is to eliminate last-minute transfers often associated with candidates seeking “special centres” for external examinations, and to ensure consistent academic monitoring and continuity in teaching and learning.
The Federal Government has issued a strict warning to school owners, principals, and administrators, directing them to fully comply with the new policy.
Any violation will lead to sanctions under existing education regulations, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to fairness, improving academic standards, and restoring public confidence in national examinations.
